Car
If you are driving, start from Mawlamyine, the capital of Mon State. Take the main road 4 (also known as the Mawlamyine – Pa-Auk Road) heading east towards Pa-Auk. After approximately 17 kilometers, you will see signs for Pa-Auk Forest Monastery. Turn onto the road leading to the monastery, which is about 3 kilometers from the main road. You can use a GPS system or a maps app to help navigate to the exact location (9M9C+R5Q Tawya, Pa-Auk). Parking is available near the entrance.
Public Transportation - Bus
From Mawlamyine, you can take a local bus heading towards Kyaikto or Pa-Auk. Buses leave frequently from the main bus station. The fare is typically around 1,000 MMK (Myanmar Kyat). Inform the bus driver you wish to stop at Pa-Auk Forest Monastery. This journey will take about 30-45 minutes. Once you get off the bus, it’s a short walk (around 1 kilometer) to the monastery. Follow the signs to reach your destination.
Motorbike Hire
For a more adventurous option, you can rent a motorbike in Mawlamyine. Rental shops are available throughout the city, and prices usually range from 5,000 to 10,000 MMK per day depending on the bike type. Follow the same route as for cars, and use the GPS to navigate. The ride will take about 30 minutes, and you’ll have the flexibility to explore the area around the monastery.
Taxi
You can also hire a taxi from Mawlamyine to Pa-Auk Forest Monastery. This is a more comfortable but pricier option, with fares typically ranging from 15,000 to 20,000 MMK for a one-way trip. The journey will take around 30 minutes. It’s a good idea to agree on a fare before starting your trip.
