To reach Wainui Falls using public transportation, you can take a bus from Nelson to Takaka. Once in Takaka, you will need to catch a local shuttle service that goes to Abel Tasman National Park. Confirm with the shuttle service that they drop off at the Wainui Falls trailhead. After getting off the shuttle, follow the marked walking track to Wainui Falls, which is approximately a 30-minute hike from the parking area.
