From Fox Glacier, head southwest on State Highway 6 (SH6) toward the junction with Cook Flat Road. This drive takes about 10 minutes, covering approximately 7 km. Once you reach the junction, follow the signs directing you to the Westland Tai Poutini National Park and the Alex Knob Trailhead. There is a gravel parking area available for vehicles at the trailhead.

Currently, there are limited public transport options directly reaching the Alex Knob Trail. However, you can take a local shuttle or taxi service from Fox Glacier to the trailhead. Check with local providers for schedules and fares, as they may vary. This approach is advisable if you do not have access to a car. Ensure to book your return transport as well, as the trail is popular.

If you prefer an adventurous approach and are staying close to the Fox Glacier village, you can walk to the Alex Knob Trailhead. This will take approximately 1.5 hours (about 5 km), following the SH6 northwest, then turning onto Cook Flat Road. Please note that this route is not ideal due to the traffic on the highway; it is advisable to walk only if you are comfortable with road traffic.
