Start from the centre of Greymouth, at the intersection of Mackay Street and Tainui Street. Head west on Tainui Street until you reach the intersection with Boundary Street. Turn left onto Boundary Street and continue straight. As you walk, you will pass local shops and cafes, making it a scenic stroll. After about 20-25 minutes of walking, you will reach the Grey River. Continue walking along the riverbank walkway, enjoying the views. Follow the path until you reach the Cobden Bridge. Cross the bridge, which will take you to Cobden. Once across, continue along the path, which will lead you towards the Southern Breakwater Viewing Platform. The platform is well-signposted, and you can expect to see stunning views of the coast and the river mouth. The entire journey should take about 45 minutes to an hour.

Rent a bicycle from one of the local bike rental shops in Greymouth. Begin your journey at the Greymouth i-SITE Visitor Centre. From there, head towards the coastline via the coastal pathway. Follow the path along the river, which will lead you to Cobden Bridge. Cross the bridge and keep cycling towards the Southern Breakwater. The ride takes approximately 30 minutes, and you can enjoy the fresh air and beautiful scenery along the way. Make sure to watch for signage directing you to the Southern Breakwater Viewing Platform.
