If you are traveling by car, start your journey in either Palmerston North or Whanganui. From Palmerston North, take State Highway 3 (SH3) north towards Wanganui. After approximately 80 km, merge onto State Highway 1 (SH1) towards Taihape. Continue on SH1 until you reach the turn for SH47 towards National Park Village. Follow SH47 for about 25 km, then turn onto the Tongariro National Park road. Continue along this road until you reach the Waitonga Falls Walk Trailhead car park. There may be a parking fee, so ensure you have some cash or check for any applicable fees at the trailhead.

For those using public transportation, take a bus from Palmerston North or Wanganui to National Park Village. Companies such as InterCity or Naked Bus operate on these routes, but check their schedules in advance as services may be limited. Once you arrive at National Park Village, you will need to take a taxi or shuttle service to the Waitonga Falls Walk Trailhead, as it is approximately 8 km from the village. Be sure to arrange for your return trip in advance.
