Getting There

  • Car

    If you're traveling by car, start from the Mount Cook Village. Head south on Mount Cook Road (State Highway 80) for approximately 6.5 kilometers. You will pass through stunning landscapes. Look for the signs indicating the Tasman Valley. After reaching the Tasman Valley, take the left turn towards the Tasman Glacier access road. Continue for another 3 kilometers until you reach the parking area near the Tasman River Lookout. The lookout is just a short walk from the parking area.

  • Public Transportation

    If you're using public transportation, take a bus from Twizel to Mount Cook Village. Once in the village, you can either walk or seek local shuttles that operate towards the Tasman Glacier lookout. The shuttles may have limited schedules, so check in advance. If you prefer to walk, you can follow the same route as cars, which is about a 1.5-hour walk along Mount Cook Road. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and carry water.

Continue following the road signs towards the Tasman Glacier. After about 3 kilometers, you will find the access road to the Tasman River Lookout. It is a gentle walk with clear signage leading you to the lookout point.
