Getting There

  • Car

    If you are traveling by car, start from the Aoraki/Mount Cook Visitor Centre. Head southwest on State Highway 80 towards the Mount Cook Village. After approximately 1.5 kilometers, you will see signs for the Red Tarns Track on your left. Turn left onto the road leading to the Red Tarns Track car park. There is no fee for parking at this location. Park your vehicle here.

    Once parked, follow the Red Tarns Track, which begins at the car park. The track is well-marked and follows a steep ascent up the hillside. It is approximately a 1.5-hour hike to reach the viewpoint, so be sure to wear sturdy footwear and bring water.
