Car
If you're driving from Dunedin, head northeast on State Highway 1 (SH1) for about 24 km until you reach the town of Portobello. From Portobello, take the Portobello Road (follow signs to Taiaroa Head). Continue on Portobello Road for approximately 11 km until you reach Taiaroa Head. The Waiwhakaheke Seabird Lookout is located at the end of Taiaroa Head. Parking is available, but please be aware that there may be a small fee for parking.

To reach Waiwhakaheke Seabird Lookout by public transportation, take a bus from Dunedin to Portobello. The bus service is operated by the Otago Regional Council. Once you arrive at Portobello, you will need to arrange for a taxi or rideshare service to Taiaroa Head, as public transport does not extend directly to the lookout. The taxi ride from Portobello to Taiaroa Head should take about 15 minutes.

If you're at Taiaroa Head, the Waiwhakaheke Seabird Lookout is a short walk from the main parking area.
