Getting There

  • Walking

    Start at the Paihia Wharf. From the wharf, head down Marsden Road towards the Paihia Beach. Continue walking along the beach until you reach the end of the sand. Follow the coastal path that leads towards the Russell ferry terminal. Once you reach the ferry terminal, take the ferry to Russell (approximately a 15-minute ride). After disembarking at Russell, walk up the hill towards Flagstaff Hill. Follow the signs directing you to the Flagstaff Hill Historic Reserve. The track begins at the end of Flagstaff Road.

  • Ferry and Walking

    Begin at Paihia Wharf and take the ferry to Russell. Once you arrive in Russell, disembark and head towards the main road, which is called Wellington Street. Walk along Wellington Street and then turn left onto Flagstaff Road. Continue walking up Flagstaff Road until you see signs for the Flagstaff Hill Historic Reserve. The entrance to the reserve will be on your left, with a clearly marked track leading up to the viewpoint.

    From Paihia, go to the nearest bus stop and catch a bus heading towards Russell. Once you arrive in Russell, get off at the nearest stop to Wellington Street. From there, walk east along Wellington Street until you reach Flagstaff Road. Turn left onto Flagstaff Road and continue until you find the entrance to the Flagstaff Hill Historic Reserve, which will be on your left. Follow the track up to the top for stunning views.
