If you're driving from New Plymouth, take State Highway 3 southbound. Follow the signs for Hāwera and continue on SH3 for approximately 36 km. Once you arrive in Hāwera, turn left onto Ohangai Road. After about 1 km, you will find Tawhiti Museum on your right at 401 Ohangai Road. There is parking available on-site.

To reach Tawhiti Museum via public transport, start by taking a bus from New Plymouth to Hāwera. You can catch a bus from the New Plymouth Central Bus Station. The journey will take approximately 1 hour, depending on the service. Once you arrive at the Hāwera bus station, you can either walk (around 25 minutes) or take a taxi to Tawhiti Museum. To walk, head east on High Street, then turn right onto Ohangai Road. Continue straight for about 1.5 km, and you will see the museum on your left at 401 Ohangai Road. If you prefer taking a taxi, the fare will be around NZD 15-20.
