From any location within Tongariro National Park, head towards State Highway 47 (SH47). Follow the signs directing you to Whakapapa. Continue on SH47 for about 25 kilometers until you reach the junction with Bruce Road. Turn onto Bruce Road and drive to the top, where Whakapapa is located. The journey from the junction to Whakapapa takes about 15-20 minutes. Parking is available at the top of Bruce Road.
