If you are starting from the Wanaka i-Site Visitor Centre located at 103 Ardmore Street, head south on Ardmore Street towards the lake. Once you reach the Wanaka Tree, turn left onto the lakeside path and follow it until you see the sign for Beautiful Gardens of Wanaka.
