    Starting from Whanganui's city center, head east on Victoria Avenue. Continue straight for about 1 km until you reach the intersection with Somme Parade. At the intersection, turn left onto Somme Parade, which runs alongside the Whanganui River. Keep walking along the river for approximately 2 km, enjoying the scenic views. When you reach the bridge at the end of Somme Parade, cross it and continue straight onto Taupo Quay. After about 500 meters, turn right onto Wicksteed Street. Follow Wicksteed Street until you reach the intersection with Glasgow Street. Turn left onto Glasgow Street and continue walking until you reach the entrance to Spike's Reserve on your left. The reserve is located at Whanganui East, which is easily identifiable by its park signage.

    If you are biking from the city center of Whanganui, start by heading east on Victoria Avenue. After about 1 km, turn left onto Somme Parade. Follow Somme Parade along the river for about 2 km. As you approach the bridge, you will see a path that leads to the bridge. Cross the bridge and take the path that leads you onto Taupo Quay. Continue along Taupo Quay for approximately 500 meters. Turn right onto Wicksteed Street. Follow Wicksteed Street until you hit Glasgow Street, where you will turn left. Spike's Reserve will be on your left side as you approach it.

From there, walk straight down Glasgow Street for about 500 meters until you see Spike's Reserve on your left.
