Getting There

• Car

  From any point in Mount Hood National Forest, head towards Highway 26. Take Highway 26 East until you reach the junction with Highway 35. Merge onto Highway 35 North and continue for approximately 15 miles. Then, take the exit for I-84 East towards The Dalles. After about 10 miles, take exit 64 for Odell and turn left onto Wygant Trail. Follow Wygant Trail until you reach the parking area for Wygant State Natural Area. The total drive time is approximately 45 minutes, depending on traffic.

• Public Transportation (Bus)

  Public transportation options are limited in this area. However, you can take the Columbia Gorge Express bus from Portland to Hood River. The bus operates several times daily and provides a scenic route through the Columbia River Gorge. Once you arrive in Hood River, you will need to arrange for a taxi or rideshare service to reach Wygant State Natural Area, as there is no direct public transport available to the park. The bus fare is approximately $15 one-way.

• Bicycle

  If you are feeling adventurous, biking to Wygant State Natural Area is a viable option. From Hood River, bike along Highway 35 North for about 7 miles. Be cautious, as you will be sharing the road with cars. Once you reach Wygant Trail, follow it until you reach the park entrance. This route is approximately 10 miles and can take about 1-2 hours depending on your cycling speed and fitness level. Ensure you are prepared with proper biking gear and safety equipment.
