History of Calabarzon

Before the arrival of the Spanish, Calabarzon was inhabited by various indigenous groups, including the Tagalogs, Aetas, and Dumagats. These communities thrived on fishing, farming, and trade. Notably, the Tagalogs established early settlements along the Pasig River and Taal Lake, which became significant centers of culture and commerce.
The region of Calabarzon, comprising the provinces of Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon, saw the arrival of Spanish conquistadors in the late 16th century. The Spanish established numerous towns, including the cities of Cavite City in 1571, Batangas City in 1581, and the walled city of Intramuros in Manila, which influenced the region's development. The introduction of Christianity led to the construction of many historic churches, such as the San Sebastian Church in Lumban, Laguna.
Calabarzon played a crucial role in the Philippine Revolution against Spanish rule.
