Getting There

  • Bus

    To reach the Basilica of Estrela from Cascais, start by walking to the Cascais Bus Terminal located near the town center. Look for the bus line 403 or 417 heading to Lisbon. Once you board the bus, enjoy the scenic ride which will take approximately 30-40 minutes. Get off at the 'Praça da Alegria' stop. From there, walk southeast along Rua da Alegria for about 10 minutes until you reach Praça da Estrela. The Basilica will be on your right.

    From Cascais, make your way to the Cascais Train Station. Purchase a ticket for the train to Cais do Sodré in Lisbon. The journey takes around 40 minutes. Upon arriving at Cais do Sodré, exit the station and walk to the tram stop. Take tram line 28 in the direction of 'Campo de Ourique'. After about 10 minutes, get off at the 'Praça da Estrela' stop. The Basilica of Estrela is a short walk from the tram stop, located directly in the square.

    If you’re feeling adventurous and the weather permits, you can walk from Cascais to Estrela. Start from the town center of Cascais and head towards the coast. Follow the coastal path towards São João do Estoril, then connect with the main road heading towards Lisbon. It’s a long walk of approximately 20 kilometers and will take around 4-5 hours, but you'll be treated to beautiful views along the way. Once you reach Lisbon, continue to Praça da Estrela, where the Basilica is located.
