Getting There

  • Walking

    If you are in the heart of Alfama, begin by heading towards Rua de São Miguel. From there, walk towards the Miradouro de Santa Luzia, a popular viewpoint. Once you reach the viewpoint, continue straight down past the church of Santa Luzia. Follow the path that leads you down the hill, which will take you towards R. Cais de Santarém. Once you reach R. Cais de Santarém, turn left, and you will find Chafariz d'El-Rei at number 23 on your left.

  • Tram

    From the nearest tram stop, which is 'Miradouro de Santa Luzia' (you can get here on foot from any location in Alfama), take Tram 28 towards 'Campo Ourique'. Get off at the next stop, 'Cerro do Castelo'. From there, walk down Rua da Regueira until you reach R. Cais de Santarém. Turn right, and Chafariz d'El-Rei will be located at number 23. Note that a single tram ticket costs €3.

  • Bus

    If you are near the 'Alfama' area, you can catch a bus from the stop 'Largo do Chafariz de Dentro'. Take Bus 737 towards 'Cais do Sodré'. Get off at the 'Cais de Santarém' stop.
