From Funchal, take the VR1 highway heading northwest. Continue on the VR1 for approximately 20 kilometers until you reach the exit for ER228 towards Encumeada. Follow the signs for ER228, and you will drive through some scenic mountainous areas. After about 10 kilometers on ER228, you will arrive at Miradouro da Encumeada. There is a parking area available, but be sure to check for any parking fees.
