Getting There

• Walking

  If you are near the Livraria Lello bookstore, start by heading southeast on Rua das Carmelitas towards Rua da Trindade. Continue straight until you reach the end of the street, where it will intersect with Rua dos Clérigos. Turn left onto Rua dos Clérigos and walk until you reach Praça de Carlos Alberto. At this square, you will see a large statue in the center. From here, continue straight onto Rua de 31 de Janeiro. After a short walk, you will arrive at Praça da Batalha, where the Church of Saint Ildefonso is located.

• Metro

  If you are near a metro station, take the Line A (Blue) or Line B (Red) to the São Bento station. Once you exit the station, head northwest on Rua do Comércio until you reach Praça da Batalha. The Church of Saint Ildefonso will be on your left, easily recognizable by its stunning blue tile facade.

• Bus

  For those near a bus stop, look for buses that head towards Praça da Batalha. You can take bus number 500 from various points in the city center. Once you arrive at the Praça da Batalha stop, disembark and the Church of Saint Ildefonso will be directly across the square.

• Tram

  If you're close to one of the tram stations, take the historic Tram 22. Ride it until you reach the 'Batalha' stop. Once you get off, you will see the Church of Saint Ildefonso right in front of you, set against the backdrop of the bustling square.
