Start at Praça da República, the central square in Viana do Castelo. From the square, head east on Rua Mouzinho de Albuquerque. Continue straight for about 500 meters until you reach the intersection with Avenida dos Combatentes da Grande Guerra. Turn left onto Avenida dos Combatentes da Grande Guerra and follow it for approximately 1 kilometer. You will see a sign for 'Castelo Santiago da Barra' as you approach the hill. Continue up the hill, where the road will lead you directly to the castle entrance.

Take the local bus from the Viana do Castelo bus station. Board the bus heading towards 'Castelo' or 'Monte de Santa Luzia.' The bus ride will take about 15-20 minutes. Get off at the 'Castelo' stop, which is located near the base of the hill leading to Castelo Santiago da Barra. From there, walk uphill along the path to reach the castle entrance, which is about a 10-minute walk.

If you prefer biking, you can rent a bicycle from one of the many rental shops in the city. Start your ride at Praça da República and head east on Rua Mouzinho de Albuquerque. Then, take Avenida dos Combatentes da Grande Guerra for about 1 kilometer. As you approach the hill, the path will lead you to Castelo Santiago da Barra. The ascent is steep, so be prepared for a workout!
