Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving to Newlands Saddle, start by heading towards the Newlands area of Cape Town. From the city center, take the M3 highway southbound. Exit at the Newlands exit and follow the signs for Newlands Forest. Once you arrive at the Newlands Forest parking area, park your car and prepare for a short hike. From the parking lot, follow the signs for the Newlands Ravine trail. The trail will lead you up through the forest and eventually to Newlands Saddle. The total driving distance from the city center to the parking area is approximately 10 km, and it takes around 20 minutes depending on traffic.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Newlands Saddle using public transportation, take the Cape Town MetroRail train from the city center to Newlands Station. The train journey takes about 20 minutes. Once you arrive at Newlands Station, exit the station and walk towards Newlands Forest. Follow the road signs to the Newlands Forest parking area, which is about a 15-20 minute walk from the station. After reaching the parking area, follow the trail signs for Newlands Ravine. The hike to Newlands Saddle from the parking area takes about 1-1.5 hours depending on your pace.

  If you are already within Table Mountain National Park, the best way to reach Newlands Saddle is to walk. Identify your current location within the park and head toward the Newlands Ravine trail. The trail is well-marked, and you can ask fellow hikers or park staff for directions if needed. The hike from the entrance of the park or any nearby trailhead may vary in distance, but it typically takes between 1 to 2 hours to reach Newlands Saddle, depending on your starting point and hiking speed.
