Travel Guide to Lake Lugano

Getting There

• Car

  If you are travelling by car, start by setting your GPS to Lake Lugano's coordinates: 45.9862544 latitude and 8.9699889 longitude. From Lugano city center, take the A2 motorway heading south towards Chiasso. Follow the signs for Lake Lugano. Once you reach the exit for Lugano Nord, take the exit towards Lugano. After exiting, continue straight and follow the signs to the lake. Parking is available at various locations around the lake, but be mindful of any parking fees that may apply.

• Public Transportation - Train

  For those using public transportation, take a train from your current location in Ticino to Lugano. You can check the train schedules through the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) website or app. Once you arrive at the Lugano train station, exit the station and follow the signs for the bus terminal. Take bus number 2 or 4 towards 'Lugano, Stazione' or 'Lugano, Grand Hotel Villa Castagnola.' The bus ride will take approximately 10-15 minutes. Get off at the bus stop nearest to Lake Lugano, and you can easily walk to the lakefront.

• Public Transportation - Bus

  If you are already in Lugano, you can take a local bus to Lake Lugano. From the main bus terminal, catch bus number 2 or 4. The buses frequently run, approximately every 15-20 minutes. The ride will take around 10-15 minutes depending on traffic. Make sure to get off at the stop closest to the lake, such as 'Lugano, Grand Hotel Villa Castagnola'. Depending on the route, a single ticket costs around 2.50 CHF.

• Walking

  If you are staying in or near Lugano, walking to Lake Lugano is a pleasant option. From the city center, follow the signs towards the lake, which is about a 20-minute walk. Head down Via Nassa, one of the main shopping streets, towards the lakefront. Once you reach the waterfront, you will find yourself at Lake Lugano where you can enjoy the beautiful views and surrounding parks.
