Getting There

  • Car

    From the Sugarlands Visitor Center, take Newfound Gap Road (US-441) south. Drive approximately 9.5 miles until you reach the Alum Cave Trailhead parking area on the right. This parking lot is the starting point for the hike to Inspiration Point. Note that the parking area may fill up quickly, especially during peak seasons, so arrive early. There is no fee to park here.

  • Hiking

    Once parked at the Alum Cave Trailhead, follow the Alum Cave Trail. The hike to Inspiration Point is about 2.5 miles one way and is moderately strenuous with some elevation gain. The trail will take you through beautiful forested areas and past several scenic spots. Follow the trail markers, and keep an eye out for signs directing you toward Inspiration Point. The hike will take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours to reach the viewpoint, depending on your pace.
