If you are travelling by car, the journey to Old Slains Castle begins by heading towards Ellon. From Aberdeen, take the A90 northbound, then exit onto the A956 towards Ellon. Continue on the A956, which eventually turns into the B9005. Follow the signs for Collieston. Once in Collieston, look for the signs directing you to the castle. There is limited parking available in the village, so be sure to park respectfully. The castle is a short walk from the village, approximately 1 mile along the coastal path.

For those using public transportation, start by taking a bus from Aberdeen to Ellon. Services such as the X40 or 67 run regularly from Aberdeen Bus Station to Ellon. Once in Ellon, you will need to transfer to a local bus service or taxi to reach Collieston. Alternatively, you can enjoy a scenic walk from Ellon to Collieston, which is roughly 4 miles. Upon arriving in Collieston, follow the signposted paths towards Old Slains Castle. Wear comfortable shoes as the path can be uneven.

If you are already in Collieston, the castle is easily accessible on foot. From the village, head towards the cliffs and follow the coastal path. The walk to Old Slains Castle takes approximately 20 minutes and offers stunning views of the coastline. Be cautious as the paths can be steep and rocky in places.
