Getting There

  • Walking

    If you are starting from the city center (e.g., Durham Cathedral), head northeast on the Market Place towards the North Road. Continue straight onto North Road for about 0.5 miles. When you reach the traffic lights at the junction with the A690 (also known as the Leazes Road), cross safely and turn left onto the A690. Follow it for about 0.3 miles until you see the entrance to Aykley Wood Nature Reserve on your right, just past the Aykley Heads Business Park.

  • Bus

    From Durham Bus Station, take the Arriva 56 bus towards Consett. Get off at the Aykley Heads stop. After exiting the bus, walk back towards the direction of the bus you came off. Aykley Wood Nature Reserve will be on your left, just a short walk from the bus stop.

  • Bicycle

    From the city center, you can rent a bicycle or use your own. Head northeast on the Market Place towards North Road. Continue onto North Road and follow the same route as for walking. Once you reach the A690 junction, use the cycle path along the road to reach Aykley Wood Nature Reserve. There are bike racks available near the entrance.
