Getting There

    If you are travelling by car, head towards the town of Tain. From Inverness, take the A9 south. After about 30 miles, take the exit for Tain (A836). Continue on the A836 until you reach Tain, then follow the signs for the A9. Once in Tain, follow the signs for the A9 towards Balintore. The Shandwick Stone is located just outside of Balintore along the coast. There is a small parking area near the stone, but be mindful of local parking regulations. Note that parking is free.

    For those using public transportation, take a train from Inverness to Tain. The train journey typically takes around 30 minutes. Upon arrival at Tain station, head to the bus stop outside the station and take the bus number 26 towards Balintore. The bus ride will take approximately 15 minutes. Get off at the stop closest to the Shandwick Stone. Make sure to check the bus schedule in advance as services may be limited, especially on weekends.
