Adjacent to the station lies the carriage and wagon works and a 60-foot turntable, vital for maintaining the historic rolling stock.

Trains depart from Pickering and travel north through picturesque villages and countryside, including the famous Goathland station, known as Hogsmeade in the Harry Potter films.
