Getting There

• Car

  To reach North York Moors National Park by car, start on the A1(M) motorway if you're coming from the south. Follow the signs for A66 towards Thirsk and then take the A170 towards Helmsley. From Helmsley, follow the A169 north to the park entrance. If you're coming from the north, take the A19 south to the A168 towards Thirsk, then follow the A170 and A169 as described. Note that parking fees may apply at certain locations within the park, so be prepared for potential costs.

• Public Transportation

  For public transportation, take a train to either the towns of Malton or Pickering, which are the closest railway stations to North York Moors National Park. From Malton, you can catch a bus (service 840 or 843) to Pickering. From Pickering, another bus service (the 128) runs directly to the park. Be sure to check the bus schedules in advance, as they can vary, especially on weekends. A return ticket from either station to Pickering costs approximately £5-£10.

• Taxi

  If you prefer a more direct route, consider taking a taxi from either Malton or Pickering railway stations to North York Moors National Park. This option may be more expensive, typically ranging from £20 to £40 depending on your exact destination within the park, but it provides a convenient and comfortable way to reach your destination.

• Cycling

  For those who enjoy cycling, you can rent a bike in either Pickering or Helmsley and cycle into the park. There are several well-marked cycling routes within the park that offer beautiful views and a chance to explore the area at your own pace. Ensure you have appropriate gear for cycling long distances, and be aware that some trails may be more challenging than others.
