Walking
From St. Peter's Basilica, exit the basilica and head towards the main square, Piazza San Pietro. Once you reach the square, walk straight towards the large colonnades and exit through the main gate onto Via della Conciliazione. Continue straight on Via della Conciliazione until you reach the Tiber River. Cross the river using the Ponte Sant'Angelo bridge. After crossing, turn left onto Lungotevere Castello and continue walking until you reach the traffic circle. At the traffic circle, take the second exit onto Via di Porta Castello. Follow this road as it curves and turns into Via della Conciliazione. Continue straight until you reach Piazza del Colosseo. The Colosseum will be visible as you approach.

Public Transport
From St. Peter's Basilica, walk to the nearest bus stop, which is located on Via della Conciliazione. Board bus number 40 or 64 in the direction of Termini. Ride the bus for about 15 minutes and get off at the 'Largo di Torre Argentina' stop. From there, walk towards Via dei Fori Imperiali. Continue on this road until you reach the Colosseum, which will be on your right.

If you prefer a more scenic route, exit St. Peter's Basilica and walk towards the Vatican Museums. Instead of entering the museums, proceed around the Vatican walls until you reach the main entrance on Viale Vaticano. Follow Viale Vaticano as it turns into Via di Porta Angelica, and then continue straight until you reach Via della Conciliazione. From there, you can either turn left and head towards the Tiber River or continue straight until you reach Piazza del Colosseo.
