Walking
From the entrance of the Vatican Gardens, head out towards the main road. Once you reach the Via di Porta Angelica, turn left and follow the road until you reach the traffic lights. Continue straight until you see the Basilica di San Pietro on your right. Keep walking straight until you reach the Piazza San Pietro. From there, take the Via della Conciliazione, and after about 10 minutes of walking, you will arrive at the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore, located at P.za di Santa Maria Maggiore, 00100 Roma RM.

If you are near the Vatican Museums, exit the Museums and head towards Viale Vaticano. Take a left on Viale Vaticano and continue walking until you reach Piazza della Libertà. From there, take the first right onto Via di Monte Oppio and walk straight until you arrive at Piazza di Santa Maria Maggiore.

From the Vatican Gardens, walk to the nearest bus stop located on Via di Porta Angelica. Take bus number 64 or 81 towards Termini. Disembark at the 'Santa Maria Maggiore' stop. From there, it's a short walk to the Basilica located at P.za di Santa Maria Maggiore.
