Castelo de Palmela
With an Islamic occupation between the 8th and 12th centuries, Palmela Castle was conquered by D. Afonso Henriques in 1147 and definitively recovered by D. Sancho I. Definitive headquarters of the Order of Santiago, from 1443 until its extinction, in 1834, The fortification has been a National Monument since 1910. The geographical position of the castle allows a strategic domain of part of the sadino estuary, a slope of the Arrábida mountain range and the surrounding plains that separate it from the Tagus. This situation was once of great importance because of the connections and communication possibilities that were established with the surrounding castles of the Tagus and Sado lines.

Lapa de Santa Margarida
There is a natural cave at the base of Serra da Arrábida with an incredible 17th century chapel inside. The Lapa de Santa Margarida is well hidden and, although it is near the Portinho da Arrábida, only find who knows where to look.
