The Wernher von Braun Planetarium, operated by the Von Braun Astronomical Society (VBAS), offers captivating shows and telescope viewings. Founded with the help of Wernher von Braun himself, the planetarium uses a unique dome originally part of a Saturn V rocket test structure.

Local tips
- Arrive at least 30 minutes before the Saturday night planetarium shows, as seating is limited and fills up quickly.
- Check the VBAS website for the current schedule of planetarium shows and special events.
- If attending a VBAS event, inform the Monte Sano State Park entrance attendant to have the park entrance fee waived.
- After the planetarium show, take advantage of the telescope viewing (weather permitting) to observe celestial objects with experienced astronomers.

Driving
From downtown Huntsville, take Hwy 431 (Governors Drive) towards Guntersville. At the top of the mountain, follow the signs to Monte Sano State Park on Monte Sano Boulevard, then turn right onto Nolen Avenue to reach the park entrance. Inform the park attendant you are visiting the VBAS to waive the entrance fee. Follow the main park road, turning left at the first intersection. The VBAS entrance is on the left, just before the park overlook. Parking is free at the VBAS facility.

Public Transport
While there is no direct public transportation to the planetarium, you can take a Huntsville Orbit bus to a nearby location in Monte Sano State Park and then walk or take a taxi/rideshare to the planetarium. Bus fare is approximately $1.50. A taxi or rideshare from downtown Huntsville to the planetarium will cost approximately $20-$30.
