The Alabama Wildlife Center (AWC), nestled within Oak Mountain State Park, is Alabama's oldest and largest wildlife rehabilitation facility, dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and releasing native wild birds. Visitors can observe the center's work and learn about avian conservation through self-guided tours and educational programs.

Getting There

Driving
The Alabama Wildlife Center is located within Oak Mountain State Park, approximately 20 miles south of Birmingham. From I-65, take exit 246 (AL-119/Cahaba Valley Rd). Follow the signs for Oak Mountain State Park. Once inside the park, follow Terrace Drive for approximately 0.7 miles. The AWC entrance is on the left, across from the marina parking lot. Note that there is an entrance fee to Oak Mountain State Park: $5 per adult (ages 12+), $2 per child (ages 4-11), and $2 per senior (ages 62+). Children 3 and under and active military, retired military, and veterans are free. Parking is available at the AWC.

Walking
Once inside Oak Mountain State Park, follow the signs to the Alabama Wildlife Center. From the park's main entrance, it's approximately a 2-mile walk to the AWC. Follow John Findlay III Drive and then turn right onto Terrace Drive. The AWC will be on your left. Be aware that the walk involves some hills.
