Getting There

  • Walking

    From Theth, the Blue Eye can be reached by a scenic hike. Start in Theth village and head south towards Nderlysaj, approximately 6 km away. The initial part of the hike is along a dirt road. From Nderlysaj, follow the Vaskat Nderlysaj trail for about 3 km, which involves some river crossings and wooden bridges. The trail is marked, but it's advisable to have a map. Allow 5-6 hours for the round trip from Theth.

  • Taxi/Car & Walking

    For a shorter hike, take a 4x4 taxi or drive to Nderlysaj from Theth. Taxis should cost around 5,000 LEK (50 EUR) return, including wait time. From Nderlysaj, hike approximately 3 km to the Blue Eye, following the Vaskat Nderlysaj trail. This part of the hike takes about 1 hour. Parking in Nderlysaj costs around 150-200 LEK (1.5-2 EUR).

The Blue Eye of Kaprre, also known as Syri i Kaltër i Thethit, is a captivating natural spring located in the heart of the Albanian Alps, within Theth National Park. Situated near the village of Kaprre, approximately 7 km from Theth, this hidden gem is renowned for its crystal-clear, turquoise-blue waters that sparkle in the sunlight. The spring is fed by an underground river, creating a mesmerizing pool that invites visitors to immerse themselves in its beauty. The surrounding landscape features rocky and green slopes, with the water's depth giving it a striking blue and emerald hue that changes with the seasons. The Black River, sourced from Maja e Zeze and nourished by melting snow, flows into the well, which is approximately 100 m2 in size and 4-5 m deep. Visitors can enjoy the magical scenery, take photographs, and even swim in the refreshing, albeit ice-cold, water, which averages around 10°C. A wooden staircase provides access to a restaurant with views of the spring. The best time to visit is during the summer months when the weather is ideal for hiking and the trails are accessible.
