Discover more about Hopi Point

Hopi Point, situated on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon along Hermit Road, is a renowned vista point offering expansive views of the canyon's geological grandeur. Named after the Hopi Tribe, who have ancestral ties to the region, this popular overlook provides visitors with a unique perspective of the Grand Canyon's vast mesas, intricate canyon walls, and the winding Colorado River below. Hopi Point extends further north into the canyon than any other viewpoint on the South Rim, providing nearly complete views in all directions. From this vantage, one can see landmarks such as Havasupai Point and the Great Scenic Divide to the west, as well as the mesas of Horus Temple, Isis Temple, and Osiris Temple on the North Rim. The site's history includes a fire watchtower, first a crow's nest in 1909 and later a steel tower, highlighting its strategic importance for observation. Hopi Point is particularly favored for its sunrises and sunsets, painting the canyon in vibrant colors. The viewpoint is accessible via the free Hermit Road Shuttle (Red Route) from March 1st to November 30th, or by walking or biking along the Rim Trail. During the winter months of December, January, and February, private vehicles are allowed on Hermit Road.
