Discover more about Pima Point

Pima Point, located along Hermit Road on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, is a stunning vista point offering visitors expansive views of the canyon's vastness and the powerful Colorado River. From this vantage point, you can see landmarks such as Bright Angel Canyon to the east, Powell Plateau, and the Great Scenic Divide to the west. Pima Point is one of the few places along the South Rim where you can hear the distant roar of the Colorado River as it crashes over Granite Rapids, a testament to the river's immense power. The point sits on the northernmost edge of a wide promontory, providing unobstructed panoramic views. In the early 1900s, Pima Point was also known as Hermit Point and Cyclorama Point. In 1925, the Fred Harvey Company built a cable tram from Pima Point down to Hermit Camp, 3,600 feet below. This was believed to be the longest single-span cable tram in the United States and the only rim-to-inner canyon tramway at the Grand Canyon. The camp closed in 1930 and was destroyed in 1936. Today, Pima Point is accessible via the free Hermit Road Shuttle during most of the year or by walking along the South Rim Trail. The Greenway Trail also passes through Pima Point, allowing bicyclists and visitors using wheelchairs to access the viewpoint.
