Discover more about Point Sublime

Point Sublime lives up to its name, providing an awe-inspiring panorama of the Grand Canyon. Situated on the North Rim, this viewpoint juts out into the widest part of the canyon, offering a 270-degree vista that stretches from east to west. From this vantage point, the Colorado River can be seen winding its way through the canyon depths, framed by the towering spires and rock formations that define the landscape. Historically, Point Sublime has been recognized as one of the most scenic spots in the Grand Canyon. Clarence Dutton, a geologist who led survey parties in the late 19th century, considered the view from Point Sublime to be “the most sublime and awe-inspiring spectacle in the world”. His writings and surveys helped to popularize the spot, and early tourists would travel by wagon to experience the view. Today, reaching Point Sublime requires a commitment to travel along a 17-mile unpaved road. The National Park Service recommends high-clearance, four-wheel-drive vehicles due to the rough conditions. The journey itself is an experience, winding through Ponderosa and Aspen forests, with occasional glimpses of meadows and dry creeks. Keep an eye out for the Kaibab Squirrel, a rare species native to the area. Once at Point Sublime, visitors can enjoy picnicking at designated tables or camping with a backcountry permit. The views are especially stunning at sunrise and sunset, as the light plays across the canyon walls. While there are no trails leading into the canyon from this point, the panoramic vista is a destination in itself, offering a profound connection to the vastness and beauty of the Grand Canyon.
