Discover more about Monument Creek Vista

Monument Creek Vista provides visitors with a remarkable vantage point to observe the Grand Canyon's intricate geological tapestry. From this roadside vista, one can witness Monument Creek carving its way through the rock strata, descending from the rim, across the Tonto Platform, and finally slicing into the Inner Gorge's 2-billion-year-old basaltic rock. The creek's journey culminates in a meeting with the Colorado River, creating some impressive rapids. Beyond the immediate view of Monument Creek, the vista offers a broader panorama of the canyon's grandeur. A knife-like ridge stands prominently in the foreground, while sweeping red-rock buttes stretch towards the North Rim. This vista also marks the beginning of the Greenway Trail, a 2.8-mile paved path that overlaps with the Rim Trail, heading west towards Hermit's Rest. The Greenway Trail is accessible to hikers, cyclists, and visitors using wheelchairs, following the 1912 alignment of Hermit Road and offering multiple overlooks and rest areas. For those looking to explore further, the vista provides access to both the paved Greenway Trail and the more rugged Canyon Rim Trail. Whether you choose to embark on a leisurely stroll or a more challenging hike, Monument Creek Vista serves as a gateway to discovering the South Rim's natural beauty.
