Discover more about Hopi Point

Hopi Point is a premier viewpoint located along Hermit Road on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon National Park. This popular spot is known for its exceptional panoramic views, especially at sunrise and sunset. It extends further into the canyon than other overlooks on Hermit Road, providing unobstructed views of the vast landscape. Visitors to Hopi Point can see a wide array of iconic rock formations, including the Shiva Temple, Isis Temple, and Zoroaster Temple. Five views of the Colorado River can also be seen from this vantage point. The point's westward-facing view makes it an ideal location to watch the sun sink below the horizon, painting the canyon walls in vibrant colors. Hopi Point has a rich history within Grand Canyon National Park. In the early 20th century, it was the site of one of the first tourist camps. In 1909, the U.S. Forest Service built a fire lookout tower here, which was later replaced by a steel tower that still stands today. This tower is recognized on the National Historic Lookout Register for its role in conservation efforts. The point was originally named Rowes Point for Sanford Rowe, an early guide in the canyon. Today, Hopi Point is easily accessible via the park's free shuttle bus service (Red Route) for most of the year, or by walking or biking along the Rim Trail. The viewing area is partially enclosed by a safety fence, providing a secure environment to enjoy the breathtaking surroundings.
