For over a century, it has been a beloved destination for locals and tourists alike, drawing an estimated 1.25 million visitors annually. The canyon's history stretches back millions of years to the formation of the Santa Catalina Mountains. The area was once inhabited by the Hohokam people, and later by the Pima and Tohono O'odham Indians. In more recent times, the canyon's popularity grew, leading to the construction of roads and bridges in the 1930s by the WPA and Civilian Conservation Corps.
