Breathtaking Views at East Mt. Lemmon Highway Lookout

Getting There

• Public Bus

  To reach the East Mt. Lemmon Highway Lookout from downtown Tucson, start by heading to the Ronstadt Transit Center located at 215 E. Congress St. Take the Sun Tran Bus Route 3 towards 'Eastside' and ride for about 30 minutes until you reach the stop at 'Houghton Rd./Speedway Blvd.' (around 8 stops). From there, transfer to Bus Route 103, which heads towards 'Mount Lemmon.' This route will take you closer to the vicinity of Mt. Lemmon. Once you get off the bus, it is advisable to walk towards the Mount Lemmon Highway, which is approximately a 15-minute walk. Follow the road signs leading up the mountain, and you will eventually reach the lookout point.

• Bicycle

  If you prefer cycling, you can rent a bike in downtown Tucson. Start at the Tucson Bike Share station at 100 N. Stone Ave. Rent a bike and head east on E. Congress St. Turn left onto S. 6th Ave. and continue until you reach E. Broadway Blvd. Take a right on Broadway and follow it until you reach Houghton Rd. From Houghton, it's a long ride heading northeast towards Mt. Lemmon. Be prepared for a challenging climb as you approach the mountain. The ride from downtown to the East Mt. Lemmon Highway Lookout will take several hours, so plan accordingly with water and snacks.

• Walking

  Walking to the East Mt. Lemmon Highway Lookout from a nearby location like the Houghton Road area is quite a trek and may not be feasible for most tourists. However, if you are determined, you could start from the nearest bus stop on Houghton Rd. After getting off the bus at the Houghton Rd./Speedway Blvd. stop, walk north along Houghton Rd. until you reach the intersection with Mount Lemmon Highway. Then, continue on foot along the highway, heading up the mountain. It's advisable to wear comfortable shoes and carry sufficient water, as the path can be steep and challenging.
