If you are traveling by car, start on AZ-87 S from wherever you are in Tonto National Forest. Follow AZ-87 S for approximately 21 miles until you reach the junction with AZ-188. Take a right onto AZ-188 S, and continue for about 13 miles. Look for the 229.5 Mile Marker, where LeGrand Cove is located. There is no entry fee for this area, but be sure to park only in designated areas to avoid fines.

Public Transportation
Public transportation options are limited in Tonto National Forest. However, if you are starting from Phoenix, you can take a Greyhound bus to Globe, AZ. From Globe, you can arrange for a taxi or rideshare service to take you to LeGrand Cove. Ensure to book your taxi in advance, as services are not always readily available. The cost of the bus ticket to Globe may vary, typically around $30-$50, and taxi fares can range significantly based on distance and time.

For those who are already in Tonto National Forest and enjoy hiking, consider hiking from nearby trails. One option is to start from the Saguaro Lake area. You can take the La Barge Trail, which will connect with the shoreline leading towards LeGrand Cove. Make sure to carry enough water and snacks, and consider a map or GPS device as trail markers may be sparse. This hike can take several hours depending on your pace, so plan accordingly.
