Discover more about Paruyr Sevak House-Museum

The Paruyr Sevak House-Museum, located in the village of Zangakatun in Armenia's Ararat Province, is dedicated to the life and work of the eminent Armenian poet Paruyr Sevak (1924-1971). The museum offers an intimate glimpse into the world of the poet, showcasing his personal belongings, manuscripts, photographs, and other artifacts that narrate his life and artistic journey. The museum complex, designed by architect Jim Torosyan, was intended to include exhibition halls, a lobby, a chapel-bell tower, and an amphitheater. However, due to the collapse of the Soviet order, only a portion of the project was completed. The existing lobby serves as the main exhibition hall, displaying items from Sevak's personal archive, including his desk, typewriter, pens, books, certificates, manuscripts, and photographs. A large fresco by artist Sarkis Muradyan covers the wall of the foyer, depicting important periods of Sevak's life and work, as well as his contemporaries. Sevak, along with his wife Nelly Menagarishvili, is buried in the garden he cultivated, under his father's apricot tree. Visiting the gravesite offers a tranquil space for reflection on Sevak's poignant verses and contributions to Armenian literature. The museum not only celebrates Sevak's achievements but also serves as a cultural hub, preserving his legacy for future generations.
