Discover more about Paruyr Sevak House-Museum

Nestled in the village of Zangakatun, the Paruyr Sevak House-Museum pays homage to one of Armenia's most influential poets. Paruyr Sevak, born Paruyr Ghazaryan in Zangakatun in 1924, left an indelible mark on Armenian literature. The museum, established in 1981 on the tenth anniversary of his death, is located in his native village. Sevak and his wife Nelly are buried in the garden he cultivated. The museum showcases Sevak's life through personal artifacts, manuscripts, photographs, and other exhibits. Visitors can view his school notebooks, diplomas, books, and personal items such as his watches and rosary. A large fresco by artist Sarkis Muradyan adorns the foyer, depicting Sevak alongside his contemporaries. The museum also recreates Sevak's Yerevan office. Sevak's work often touched upon human emotions and societal dynamics. His outspoken criticism of corruption within the Soviet system led to speculation that his death in a car crash in 1971 was orchestrated. Today, his legacy lives on through his poetry and the museum dedicated to preserving his memory.
