    Driving

    To reach Palm Grove Nature Reserve from the F3 Freeway, take the Peats Ridge Road exit. Turn right onto Wisemans Ferry Road, then right again onto Dog Trap Road, and finally left onto Kilkenny Road. Follow Kilkenny Road to the end, where you'll find the entrance to the reserve and parking area. Alternatively, from the F3 Freeway, take the Pacific Highway exit for Ourimbah. Head south along Pacific Highway and take the first right onto Ourimbah Creek Road, continuing for approximately 9.5km to reach the other entrance. Parking is free at both Kilkenny Road and Ourimbah Creek Road entrances.

    Public Transport

    To access Palm Grove Nature Reserve via public transport, take a train to Gosford Station. From Gosford Station, transfer to a bus heading towards Somersby. Check the NSW transport info website for the most up-to-date bus schedules and routes. From Somersby, you may need to walk or take a taxi to reach the Kilkenny Road entrance of the reserve. A one-way train fare from Central Station in Sydney to Gosford Station costs approximately $8-$11. Bus fares from Gosford to Somersby are typically around $3-$5.

Located in the Ourimbah Creek valley, a few kilometers northwest of Gosford, this 240-hectare reserve is easily accessible and teems with natural beauty. The walk immerses you in diverse landscapes, from open forests of Sydney blue gums and ironbarks to a lush rainforest environment. Towering cabbage tree palms, corkwood, sassafras and giant strangler figs flourish alongside ferns, vines and orchids. The calls of native frogs, including the red-eyed green tree frog and stuttering frog, resonate throughout the reserve, especially after rainfall. Birdwatchers can spot over 80 species, including threatened birds such as masked and powerful owls. Historically, the Ourimbah Creek area was a hub for early European settlers in the 1820s, with red cedar and turpentine harvested for construction. The reserve also holds evidence of early Aboriginal occupation, including axe-grinding grooves in sandstone outcrops. Today, Palm Grove Nature Reserve is recognized as a significant conservation area, protecting unique plants and wildlife.
