Getting There

• Car

  If you're driving to Cradle Mountain, start from the nearest major city, Launceston. Take the A1 highway south, which will take you through the scenic landscapes of Tasmania. After approximately 2 hours, you will reach the turnoff for the B51 road towards Cradle Mountain. Follow B51 for about 1.5 hours until you reach 3845 Cradle Mountain Rd, which is the main entrance to the park. Make sure to have your vehicle fuelled beforehand as services are limited in this area. Parking fees may apply at the visitor centre.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Cradle Mountain using public transport, you can take a bus from Launceston. Look for a service that goes to the Cradle Mountain Visitor Centre. The journey may take around 3-4 hours, so it's advisable to check the latest schedules from local providers. Once you arrive at the Visitor Centre, you can access shuttle buses that will take you to various points within the park, including popular walking tracks. Ensure you check for the shuttle bus costs, as they may incur additional fees.

• Taxi or Rideshare

  If you prefer a more direct route without the hassle of public transport schedules, you can book a taxi or rideshare service from Launceston directly to Cradle Mountain. This option is more expensive, but it offers comfort and convenience. The drive will take about 2.5 hours. Make sure to arrange your return ride in advance as services may be limited in the area, especially later in the day.

• Bicycle

  For the adventurous, cycling to Cradle Mountain is an option, though it requires good physical fitness due to the challenging terrain. Starting from Launceston, you can take the A1 highway and then the B51. This journey is about 150 km and can take a full day, so plan for breaks and bring enough supplies. Note that there are limited facilities along the route, so ensure you're well-prepared for the ride.
