Getting There

• Car

  If you're traveling by car, start your journey from the nearest major town, such as Lienz or Kals am Großglockner. From Lienz, take the B100 road heading west towards the town of Matrei in Osttirol. Continue on the B100 until you reach the turnoff for the B106 towards Großkirchheim. Follow the B106 until you arrive in Großkirchheim. Once in the village, look for signs directing you to the Gartl Waterfall. There is a small parking area nearby where you can leave your vehicle.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Gartl Waterfall using public transport, take a train to the nearest station at Lienz. From Lienz, you can use the regional bus service (bus line 441) that operates towards Großkirchheim. Get off at the main stop in Großkirchheim. From there, follow the signs or ask locals for directions to the waterfall. The trailhead may require a short hike to access the waterfall, so be prepared with proper footwear and water.

• Hiking

  Once you reach the parking area or the bus stop in Großkirchheim, follow the designated hiking trails leading to Gartl Waterfall. The pathway is well-marked, and you should expect a moderate hike. The distance from the village to the waterfall is approximately 2 kilometers, which should take around 30-40 minutes of walking. Be sure to wear comfortable hiking shoes and carry water, as the trail can be steep in some sections.
