Getting There

  • Walking

    If you are starting from the Salzburg Cathedral (Dom zu Salzburg), exit the cathedral and head towards Kapitelplatz. From Kapitelplatz, walk towards the Residenza and take the path leading up towards Mönchsberg. Follow the signs for 'Mönchsberg' and take the stairs or the path upward. After a short climb, you will reach the Mönchsberg lift station. Take the lift up to the top of Mönchsberg. Once you exit the lift, follow the path to the left which will lead you to the Lodronsche Stadtbefestigung (Schartenmauer) located at Mönchsberg 31. The structure is clearly marked and offers beautiful views of the city.

    From Salzburg Hauptbahnhof (main train station), take bus number 1 or 3 towards 'Hallein' or 'Aigen' respectively. Get off at the stop 'Mozarteum'. From the bus stop, walk towards the Mönchsberg, following the signs that say 'Mönchsberg'. You will find a path leading up to Mönchsberg. After a short walk uphill, you will reach the Mönchsberg lift. Take the lift to the top, and once you exit, turn left to reach Lodronsche Stadtbefestigung (Schartenmauer) at Mönchsberg 31.
