Take the U1, U2, or U4 subway lines to the Karlsplatz station, where the Oper exit will place you directly at the opera house. Tram lines D, 1, 2, and 71, as well as bus line 59A, also stop at Oper, Karlsplatz. A single public transport ticket costs €2.40. Consider a 24-hour ticket for €8.00, a 48-hour ticket for €14.10, or a 72-hour ticket for €17.10 if you plan to use public transport extensively.

Located in the heart of Vienna, the State Opera is within walking distance of many major sights. From Stephansdom, walk south along Kärntner Straße. The opera house will be on your left. From the Albertina Museum, walk east along Augustinerstrasse, cross the Opernring, and you'll arrive at the Vienna State Opera. This is a free and pleasant way to approach the opera house, allowing you to take in the surrounding architecture.

Taxis are readily available throughout Vienna. Taxi stands are located near the opera house, and taxis can be hailed from the street. If arriving by car, several parking garages are located near the Vienna State Opera. The Kärntnerstraße underground parking garage offers direct access to the opera house. The BOE Garage Opernringhof is another option. The Vienna State Opera and the ÖPARK-Kärntnerringgarage offer a favorable parking package for opera patrons: park for up to 10 hours for €8 with the evening rate (from 5pm to 3am). Hourly parking rates typically range from €4. Parking garages can be found at Mahlerstraße 8 and Herbert-von-Karajan-Platz.
