Getting There

Air Travel

The most common way to reach Savute Safari Lodge is by flying into Maun Airport (MUB) or Kasane Airport (BBK), the main gateways to Botswana's Okavango Delta and Chobe National Park. From either airport, you'll typically take a smaller chartered aircraft to the lodge's private airstrip. Desert & Delta Safaris, which operates Savute Safari Lodge, usually arranges these transfers as part of your booking. The aerial transfer provides a stunning introduction to the vastness of the Botswana landscape. The cost of the chartered flight is generally included in the lodge package.
Game Drive

Once you arrive at the airstrip, a guide from Savute Safari Lodge will greet you and transport you to the lodge in an open 4x4 safari vehicle. This short game drive provides an immediate immersion into the Savute ecosystem, offering your first glimpses of the area's wildlife. The transfer is complimentary and part of the lodge's service.

Savute Safari Lodge is located in the western region of Chobe National Park, an area celebrated for its abundant game and particularly its predators. The lodge's prime location on the banks of the Savute Channel offers guests unparalleled opportunities to witness the natural drama of the African bush unfold. The Savute Channel itself is a fascinating geographical feature, known for its unpredictable flow, which has mystified locals and geologists for years. The channel's history of drying up and flowing again, independent of rainfall, adds to the area's mystique. The lodge features a two-story main building constructed of natural woods and thatch, creating an inviting and comfortable atmosphere. Guests can relax in the welcoming lounge, browse the library, or enjoy a drink at the bar while taking in the panoramic views from the extensive viewing deck. A shaded viewing deck and swimming pool with loungers offer respite during the hottest hours, with the chance to observe elephants and other wildlife at the nearby waterhole. Savute Safari Lodge accommodates a maximum of 24 guests in its eleven tastefully decorated suites and one family room. The chalets are built on elevated wooden platforms and feature private decks, combined bedroom and lounge areas, and en-suite facilities. The neutral color schemes and comfortable furnishings create a relaxing and inviting space, blending seamlessly with the natural environment. Game drives in open 4x4 vehicles, led by experienced guides, provide guests with the opportunity to explore the Savute Marsh and witness the area's diverse wildlife. The Savute region is known for its large concentrations of elephants, as well as its lion prides, which have adapted to hunting big game. Birdlife is also abundant, with species such as Secretary Birds, Kori Bustards, and Carmine Bee-eaters frequently sighted.
